Redditors that have participated in national news riots or uprisings in your country - what is your story?

Was involved in a local offshoot of Occupy Wall Street. I was also homeless at the time so I had to live at the camp. I can't say much for the actual Wall Street occupation, but ours was heavily antagonized by both media and cops. The media would report things like 'homeless people defecating in bushes at protest,' which was entirely new to us as we were all using the restrooms in the building across the street; cops would send local homeless folks to us to get fed and then later come bust us for 'feeding the homeless without a permit,' and news would report that our 'camp overrun with homeless'. Cops would also come to our camp at about 6:30 am and start kicking in tents, yelling "WAKEY WAKEY" because our permit required tents/camp to be broken down before sunrise every morning, but it was November and about 20°F that early. Between the cops harassing us and the news lying/getting people pissed at us -- random people started coming by to scream at us and pick fights -- we eventually disbanded. Now all the shit we were protesting is all the same shit that's breaking our country, such as corporate bailouts and lack of worker's rights.
