When I was a kid and my parents were going through an ugly divorce, my dog got sick. She basically got put outside and that was that. She lasted a few days. After the first night she tried to approach me but she had obviously been having vomiting and diarrhea and was filthy. I tried to spray her off with the garden hose but she hobbled away. The next night I heard her laying under my window, crying. The day after, I didn’t see her. The next day we found her lying dead under a bush in the yard. I did not really know how sick she was until then. I thought that because of the way my parents were handling things that it wasn’t serious and she was just going to get better after a while. I still think about her crying under my window all the time. I was annoyed by it when it happened because I didn’t understand what was going on. But she died alone, no doubt thinking her family had abandoned her. Kicked her out. When she tried getting near me I chased her away with the hose. When she was alone and in pain and crying to be let back in I ignored her. Until she finally hid herself away under that bush to die. I’ll never forgive myself.
