Redditors who have had to call for an ambulance after watching an incident, what was it like?

Worked security at the main bus hub in one of the top 25 most dangerous cities in America for over 3 years... I've had to call for ambulances quite a lot - easily hundreds of times.

Honestly, most of them are trivial calls - people with chest pains, pregnant women, a few overdoes in the bathrooms. Of the overdoses, none died -that I know of. Not that I ever checked or wanted to.

There were some pretty gruesome ones, 3 knife fights - one girl got her face slashed open by another girl - never saw a face flap around before, at least literally.

Lots of fights where people got hurt - but never really "seriously" hurt, like having their skull crushed in or whatever - like you'd think you see.

And of course, some really funny ones - like I always get a kick out of the people are get arrested for misdemeanor charges and they're going to jail, but they start pleading chest pains or head injury and that they need medical assistance. The police are required to get them checked out, and it's not like they can do scans or heart workups, so they end up having to release them to the hospital and the criminals get away with just a ticket instead of getting taken down to county. Most of these people are indignant anyway, no income whatever so it's not like they worry about the medical costs.

And then the funniest one I've ever seen. It was a quiet Sunday evening. I was out walking the sidewalk, just killing time before the end of my shift, when this guy walked up to me. I was like, can I help you? An older gentlemen, asked me when this downtown bus came. I told him it being the weekend, he missed the last run. He looked puzzled for a minute, then was like... call me an ambulance.

I was like... why? And he was like, I'll never make it to the homeless shelter on foot before the homeless shelter locks up - they close at like 8pm, lock the doors/take no new people; guessing it's some kind of system to keep people from going out getting drunk/taking drugs.

I laughed, like... are you serious? Ambulances aren't taxi's man - I'm not comfortable doing that for you.

He looked down at his feet again, and was like... what if I'm having a heart attack? I think I have chest pains. I was like dude... you just told me you wanted to use them as a taxi service. And he was like, well what if I'm dying and you didn't call me an ambulance? Then my death would be on YOUR hands.

I was like... fuck. You got me - hold on. So I called him an ambulance. The bastard. They showed up a few minutes later and away they went; I told the paramedics what he said before and there were like... fucking bastard.

Looking back on it though, I still think it's kinda funny - the bastard played me, got exactly what he wanted - at all our expense.
