Redditors who lived in countries that no longer exist (Like Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia...etc) What was it like to see your country breakup?

Wasnt alive back then but i live in a country that was apart of Yugoslavia. My grandfather died last year but he talked about it a lot. Yugoslavia was great, as history says together with my grandpa, with Tito on the lead. A lot of young soldiers were very honoured to have met Tito himself. He was a brilliant leader and the countries rose to their glory with his 'mastermind' on the throne right until his death. That was the lead for the breakup, but the actual cause was Serbia, which at the time wanted to expand its lands, and make, what they called "Big Serbia" (literal translation). They were planning to do it by attacking other countries of Yugoslavia which automatically led to it falling apart due to Serbs not respecting the pact they all made together.
