Relatable Characters

  • Any character can be relatable depending on the story and the writer .
  • There are actually people that think that relatable means that the character in the story needs to be like any ordinary person or like them to be relatable for example when you mention Batman people would tell you that he isn't relatable unless you are a billionaire playboy with issues or when Superman is mentioned they would tell you that he is a boring perfect alien ( which can be true for the way some writers choose to write him , but many other stories displayed otherwise ) . However , if we start thinking about it this way then Marvel characters too are just like DC because using the same logic then Spider-Man isn't relatable unless you are a teenager that got bit by a radioactive spider and have powers or Daredevil where he would only be relatable if you are some guy that got chemicals into your eyes and have superpowers because of that .
  • You see ? Relatablility doesn't really come from how much a hero resembles an average human or if he is overpowered or rich , but it comes from the hardships they face on their journey and how much these problems makes even the most overpowered of them look and feel human ( it's like supes having a family or having to deal with his eventual death or maybe the death of his loved ones ) and how they inspire you to overcome your hardships the same way they did and that's why you will find people relating to Superman , Wonder Woman , Thor , Hulk , Mister Miracle or Vision ....etc. on different levels and I'm sure when some people don't know a character well or just have formed an opinion before really reading good stories for the characters then it looks like they have a fixed opinion that Character X is boring or unrelatable without taking time to invest into the character and their stories before forming that opinion .
  • So Marvel Characters are more relatable if you are mostly invested in Marvel and DC characters are relatable if you mostly invested in DC and the fact that each have their fans is a big proof of that .
