Relive Summer 2012. DayZ 2012 Released.

Hey Guys

Just an update for you. I'm Paul, the man behind this server, (known as Terrorhertz on all social media/twitch) and I'm doing this project with my pal since school Dan (roar_dandy)

Just wanted to clear a few things up from the comments on here. Firstly I'm glad you're all discussing this as I'm completely new to reddit (this is my first post) but only saw it here as the dayz2012 website showed this as the biggest form of my visitors to my site in the analytics so thought I'd check it out and see what people had to say.

The only reason I wanted to make this server was to try and emulate as close as possible the feelings I got when I played the DayZ mod back in the summer of 2012. I'm aware a lot has changed since then, hence my desire to revert it back to what it used to be like and not include a plethora of unnecessary additions. I have been playing the mod since the start of the public release of the mod and streaming it/uploading YouTube content of the mod for over 2 years. I have recently been playing some excellent mods such as Overpoch, Overwatch, Epoch etc which offer some great action and PVP which is great for myself on stream and for the viewer however, it wasn't giving me the same feelings that the mod used to give me way back when. The surviving, scared to run north, zombies actually being a problem, intense squad play, basically being a harder game but not too hardcore etc which gave me the impetus to try something new, or old if you will.

We are not trying to make the server as "hardcore" as possible. DayZero already does a great job of that and that's not our intention here. We just wanted to offer the chance to those who never played the mod back then to get a feeling of what it was like, or for people to experience some nostalgia. For me, I'm making a server style that I myself would like to lay and hope others will too. I often watch old mod videos from YouTubers I respect and nothing yet has come close to retaining those feelings from that period of time.

Literally all the ideas for this server have come from myself on how I remember the mod playing in the summer of release and Dan who wasn't a mod player until early 2014 and therefore missed this era is scripting this all alone and it is a learning experience for him as well so we appreciate the patience of our players but rest assured, we are in constant contact daily and are always thinking of new ideas and things to improve our server. We already have released two patches with the latest including a reworking to the old Ui and debug monitor among lots of other fixes. We have taken the latest mod (1.8.4) and are stripping it back and adding bits in, don't ask me how as my scripting knowledge is 0/10 but it means anyone with the latest update can play without having to roll back and forward every time you wanted to play our server.

We are constantly adding things to the patch notes page and updating the server where we can so your constant feedback is very grateful.

Thanks for your time and sorry this was long winded. Just wanted to be transparent about our direction.

You can find all the info at dayz2012.com and our official twitter is day_2012 for any feedback. Dan can be found at roar_dandy on twitter too if you have any issues with the server.

Cheers!

Paul
