[Review] Bliss Block Star sunscreen

Disclaimer about pictures: pictures taken with my iPhone can’t accurately depict the exact colours of the product or my skin, however it’s fairly accurate. The upload onto imgur seems to have toned down the colours as the thick layer is very dark and obvious.

First impressions: Put this on and it does add a bit of colour with a thin layer. Was told I look healthy looking but still felt in some lights it looked orange. I think I have trauma from putting orange mabelline and L’Oréal foundation on in the school bathroom when I was 14 and then getting the shit ripped out of me in class for looking like a clown lol. I found streaks here and there that I had to rub in again which is kinda annoying. Also if it were to rub off i can see my ghostly skin underneath and it looks a bit strange. So maybe this isn’t the right product for my skin tone. A thin layer has a kind of “I can’t tell what’s different, but it looks nice” effect.

Second impressions: Then I tried applying two finger lengths. It comes out really thick and this is way too much. It just shows that the consistency of your spf can change how much you apply. I always use a sectioning method. I don’t like how this means I want to apply less of this spf to not appear darker for my skin. The last picture of me having applied a larger amount and you can visibly see the line between my skin and the product, was basically how my face looked. What do you think? Is the small/ thin layer amount I applied in the second picture a good amount? If so, maybe there’s less of an issue with it appearing too dark like a bad fake tan.

The price: this was £20 in the uk. In the us this is a more budget friendly spf of 10 dollars which is £7.19. I would recommend it at 10 dollars but for 20 pounds I would not repurchase. I think it’s wrong that people in the uk have less options for spf which should be considered necessary, ESPECIALLY Mineral ones. The inflation on a product because of hype is ridiculous. I also did look at other cheaper options to purchase for this spf and 20 from boots was cheapest. Maybe later on we might see it on iHerb for cheap.

Scent: a lot of reviews complained about an intense lavender scent that ruined the product for them. It is somewhat strong, but not overpowering for me, and actually I found the lavender scent actually faded away on the face after a short time and I could only smell the “mineral sunscreen” smell.

Packaging: cute. It’s a tube rather than harder structured plastic bottle which is great. The lid is a twist top- prefer a flip top but it’s ok.

Texture and finish: it’s not greasy at all. Not matte but I guess velvety? Very light on the skin. I’ve actually been using this on top of other spfs that have a slight white cast/ to matte the shinier ones, and I love it for this. It adds a tiny bit of warmth. And is a little extra protection rather than using a normal bronzer for example. For no makeup days that’s great.
