The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again - Television Film Premiere Discussion

There were a lot of good individual actors (Laverne was amazing) and sections, but the whole product is kind of...disjointed. Part of it is because it lacks the bite of the original, I feel. Even taking into account that some rewriting/sterilization had to take place to appeal to today's audience (and to get this to air on Fox), rewatching the beginning of the original on Logo in the last hour reminded me of what was really missing - that's the ridiculous camera angles that are part of the original. They're what really give it that surreal, bizarre feeling that makes the original so special. Here, they definitely took more of a stage musical approach...some fun camera angles were incorporated, yeah, but there were definitely a few too many times where the camera felt too detached from the scene it was shooting (one off the top of my head was when Rocky and Janet were jumping around on the bed...they could have done some close-ups but it just felt very bland).

There are also some issues with the song renditions themselves; I've heard others, depending on who I've asked, say that the songs were missing the bass or alto that would have given them a bit more punch.
