ROH [Spoilers] Maria meets Bullet Club

First of all, they weren't "beating the shit out of" Maria. They did one superkick, all three at the same time, and it was after she had gotten involved numerous times in the match, even superkicking one of them shortly before this. Secondly, they didn't really kick her. Watch the gif. None of them actually come close to connecting. It's a show. A wrestling show. She's taking a bump. Willingly. In fact, the spot was probably her idea. And even if it wasn't, I highly doubt she was dragged to the ring kicking and screaming and was forced to into doing this. Many other promotions do full-on intergender matches, which are typically praised and perceived to be empowering to women, yet this is somehow being perceived as gratuitous. Lastly, GOT may get shit for some things that they do, but they didn't get any for the exact instance I mentioned. A woman was brutally killed by a male protagonist, and nobody raised an eyebrow. When the finale aired, it was an after-thought. Because the woman in question was depicted as being a very vile person throughout the entire show and at that very moment was threatening to hurt someone else, and so the guy stepped up and ended her. And people loved it. Because at the end of the day, it's just a show and people want to see the bad guys lose. And that's exactly why people cheered Maria getting superkicked. If you watched the match then it should be clear to you that she was obviously playing the heel.

You can go on about how it's not right and how your main concern is for women, but then how can you possibly enjoy women in wrestling at all? WWE portrays all of their girls as being dumb bimbos who are just nice to look at. Most indie promotions do or have done intergender matches. Lucha Underground does them phenomenally. In Japan they do it, and they barely even care how old you are in order to. If you go back just 15 years ago, the state of women's wrestling was nothing but mudfights, Nitro girls, Trish's "puppies", and the occasional Bra & Panties match. Even in 2008, they did that angle with Jericho accidentally hitting Shawn's wife. And he legitimately struck her! Women in wrestling have come so far in the past decade, yet you make it sound as if they've totally regressed with this one kick. It's a show. Stop reacting to it like it's real life.
