A Car can transport people, a hammer knocks in nails, even a knife can fillet a fish or cut a steak. A Gun just shoots.

A gun just shoots. You seem to register that they are efficient tools for committing crimes, and have ignored that they are also the most efficient answer for ending an immediate criminal situation.
