Rush to invest $500,000 to get green card

I agree with you on this one. And yes the US government has every right to do whatever the fuck they want to do. Nothing wrong in that. I'm just being selfish here and wish it doesn't become tough for MS aspirants like me.

And let's be clear, no body goes for American Grad School for learning.

I'll talk about myself here. I always wanted to do masters but I just can't grind through another year and a half for another JEE like exam (GATE) and even then there is only one (IISc) maybe two good institutions in India. And I totally hate how our education system, especially higher education system is designed. Anyways, I'm neither a genius nor a scrub in my field, maybe above average and so I have a shot to study at a premier institution in a first world country and as far as ROI is concerned, US seems to be the best destination (CS student here).

Almost everyone goes there for getting better jobs

Agreed. But I don't care if I get H-1B or not. Absolutely no interest in getting a green card. The minimum I want from MS there is to work for 2-3 years so that I'm able to pay back my loans and maybe save some money(not a rich kid, will be funding almost my entire education through loan), and then I would happily come back here. Although, I admit I'll gladly take H-1B if I'm able to get it, still no interest in settling there.

So I think we both agree on a lot of points. It's just that our ways and wants are different. All the best to you and hope you make the best out of your life. :)
