Safeway closing nine Denver area stores

Man, someone has an ax to grind. Also nice buzz word with canards.

Do you really think there are people who don't know that fast food is bad for you? Do you actually think large swaths of America are really made of up people that stupid?

Yes. I do believe that people are capable of not having enough nutrition education. I also said it was an issue not the sole cause. Good job with the hyperbole though.

DPS spends $10,468 per pupil, per year and they have terrible results. You're saying DPS cannot manage to tell a kid how to eat while spending $125,472 over twelve years?

On average they spend $10,468 per pupil. Certain impoverished schools lack funding because they are in areas where there is low income from property taxes. Poor neighborhoods and low property taxes coincide with ta da! food deserts.

As for Castle Rock's School education, keep in mind the costs of running schools goes up in urban areas, just like the cost of rent. Also educational standards and practices take a dive when teachers have to deal with other issues such as 5 fights a day. The fact is when schools have enough funding for a hot breakfast and they reside in neighborhoods that have high income and low violence, kids benefit. Also teachers with real skill have to be coaxed into poor neighborhoods with debt forgiveness or other benefits. This doesn't always work so poor schools end up with bad teachers more often than not. You should also know you are talking to a high school teacher here with experience in working in poor districts.

Where would you build a store? On cheap property, or expensive? Knowing that a business must cover all costs, including property costs...A grocery store doesn't give a damn about how educated their customers are. All they care about is making money.

I don't really disagree with you here and I don't see how it's relevant or counters anything I've said. Though, educated shoppers tend to shop at grocery stores and manage their nutrition well, so it stands to reason that stores benefit from educated shoppers. Impoverished neighborhoods with low property values drive away businesses. Just because businesses have good reason to invest elsewhere doesn't mean that the problem of food deserts isn't relevant.
