Why is secessionism falling in Euskadi whilst its booming in Catalunya?

Hi,

I've can't really talk on this subject, so take this with a grain of salt, however, my speculations go out to:

  • The Catalan economy is stronger.
  • Today, I read that the Generalitat has prepared a Catalan Fiscal Agency, which 'can take on all tasks' from the Gobierno.
  • Number of people. There are more Catalans thanks Basques. More 'fuel to the flame'.
  • Catalan culture and history is different than the Basques', for example the former citadel in Barcelona.

Though I must admit that I have read some articles that the number of people that don't want to secede from Spain and are actually having protests against independence. For example, my ex was anti-secession, but her best friend was pro-secession.

I think it's a delicate subject, yet I think it also depends on the region/family you're talking to it about.

I just so happened to read that when conquering land, building a citadel/place for foreign soldiers to stay is usually a bad move in The Prince.

Conclusion is, I don't know. I guess it depends on when a scandal of a politician comes out or the Gobierno makes some ridiculous laws.
