Seeking thoughts from a conservative social worker

I agree with you here, I think the wall idea is stupid and wouldn't work anyways. I don't support the idea that illegal immigration be embraced as a good thing, we should have control over our borders and enforce laws about employment. I don't think deporting millions of people is the answer either. Hey those views aren't written into the constitution, those aren't laws. We live in a free society that elects representatives, so yeah sometimes racists will be elected, that's just how life is. The majority of people don't see things that way though I don't think. If that statement you read was a quote from a supreme court justice remarking about civil rights in 2017 then you would have a point.

I don't see society as white supremacist, it's a society designed by white people for white people.... A white supremacist society would be actively working on all levels to keep society a white only society and working actively to rid the society of non whites. I'm not casting a net on Mexicans and Muslims, but society is frustrated with how the government has handled social issues related to these populations. I don't know why you assume I'm ok with racism or racist actions, cause I'm not. Oh wait that's right, the definition of racism has been changed to mean the dominant race in a society. It isn't even a thing of calling someone the N word or discriminating against minorities or participating in KKK meetings, now it's racist simply to be white in America. That is where social justice has screwed up, it's this idea of rewriting what things mean and shaming white people who have no power over what happened in the past. That is definitely how it feels at the very least, and there are a ton of white people who are poor as hell, it's not like being white assures you a first class ticket to the American dream. What views do I ENDORSE that are broad generalizations? I don't completely disagree with your comments here, and I think you misunderstand some of mine. I am aware of what went on historically, I agree it was racist, and it was a time in the world when racism was the norm. I acknowledge that the country was built by slaves from all over the world, but they were merely being used for labor to establish the larger society. White European Americans were using those people to establish the society, in a time when slavery like this was not as controversial. They were designing the society to support the majority population, and the majority population was white. White culture white traditions became dominant, as they did in other white countries. The Mexican American war comment was about the fact that Mexico is a dump and all of N America west of Arizona would be as well if that land had not been taken, yeah that's offensive, and yeah it's also TRUE. I'm saying America was never initially designed with some big multicultural melting pot in mind, and for the country to adjust to this new version that is multicultural is where all the conflict exists. Just think back to how things were 40 years ago, we have really come a long way in just that long, this process of integration has accelerated. However, for American's who don't have family living south of the border, they want that integration to occur between citizens and people who have a legal right to be here. There is a process for becoming an American, yeah it's a long one, but it is possible and people do it all the time.
Why do you assume I am fine with some people receiving the benefits and not others? I'm not fine with that at all, I think all opportunities should be equal. I don't think that everyone who is a minority should receive a massive settlement from the government because their family was prevented from saving as much money over generations. I think access to higher education, and oversight by the government to ensure that no segregation type practices are still ongoing, to ensure that companies are not discriminating, is critical. I can totally support social justice and work abiding by the principal, and I can do so while not thinking that we as a country should have open borders. No I'm not ignorant I understand what happened and I am all for fixing what remains to be fixed and doing everything we can to fight against the societal causes of poverty and broken families. The only way I would be any different from any other social worker is that I don't think this applies to people who are undocumented. If you have a travel visa, if you have a green card, if you are a citizen then yes it applies. I don't work for the UN. You assume a lot, I am on board with this, especially when I'm on the clock, hell I would work my ass off to help a family here illegally succeed, I know the problem isn't them, they are just a family, the problem is at the macro policy level. Integrity also involves being honest, which I'm being brutally honest with you today. I am totally on board with this, again how I choose to operate when I am working or in the role of a social worker is different from how I choose to think or vote in my private life. I think I agree with about 90% of the things most social workers think are important when it comes to politics. Would I provide pro bono services to a Mexican family here illegally, YES I would, and I would work very hard for them and even have empathy for them. I would work just as hard for an AA family who hate white people and most of the males are in jail for gang related homicides. That's not my problem, I only care about how to make a situation better, how can I help. That's really all that it boils down to for me. Its quite clear you are perceiving me differently than I actually am. We all have our own interests and reasons for going into this line of work that are beyond just wanting to make the world a better place. We all need to make a living. My interests in social work really is that I think it is the best platform for me to be the most effective counselor I can be with various populations. It is a very versatile position, I would not be stuck to doing just one thing. Many insurance companies work with social workers and not so much with other state level licensed clinicians. My population is the alcohol and drug dependent population, and I can better work with them with an MSW degree. I can better work with their families. I can better help those with mental illness, I will have a greater foundation in knowing how to navigate the system with clients like that to help them along. So my motives are right there for you, I hope that makes sense. A lot of people who want to be therapists become MSWs as well, there are practical reasons for pursuing the degree over others. Honestly I wouldn't have brought this up if I wasn't ambivalent about my views and wanting to further work on them. I don't like having conflict with other people in this field, and actually I have yet to experience any problems. I don't like the anti white rhetoric that I often hear, the anti male rhetoric, and this idea like I have not choice but to support illegal immigration, and that I should pretend that letting in millions Muslims into Europe was a good thing for most of those countries. That has been a total disaster, a total culture clash. I would never work against someone coming here legally no matter their background, and I would support a middle eastern family fully in their goals. However, I also am not going to deny that some groups of people really are not going to do well here. If I was working with a family like this I would do everything in my ability to help them do well. You are going from a collectivist culture into a individualist one, very different values, very different customs. I don't think that is always a good idea, and I don't think that for Europe to be intentionally taking on masses of refugees that it is a good idea for their countries. I think other middle eastern countries should be stepping up and helping out with refugees more. Oh and another thing about this whole issue, I can't support something like sharia law being adopted as law in my personal life. You look at Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, that is not a way of life that should be embraced, it conflicts with the western world. It conflicts with our values. So here is an area where I will work my ass off for people who are from the middle east and their families to meet their goals, and I will have empathy and learn to respect their traditions, however in my own private life I'm not going to go marching down the street insisting that we let more of them into the country. Setting them up for failure is what that is.
