Serie A is much better than /r/Soccer and the Media give it credit for.

While the top players & managers are in the Premier League & La Liga, the publicity, media coverage and money will follow and the cycle continues. However, with wider availability through online coverage/streams, people can continue to watch Serie A and realise that it is just as exciting. However its such a big risk for TV companies to put Serie A on a par with Premier League/La Liga because their coverage is heavily reliant on marketing it as the top leagues with the top individual stars. Its a slow process that will possibly only be initiated through multiple teams having sustained Champions League runs, or stand-out world class players in electric form staying with their Italian clubs instead of moving abroad. Or the influence of European TV companies declining.

Regardless of whether it looks good or bad on paper, or in comparisions to other Champions League nations, just give it a watch - there's some really exciting players and already been some fantastic matches this season.
