[Serious] I filed a police report and the police changed it..

Is this where I'm supposed to stick the content of the post?! Sorry if I got it wrong!

I was involved in a hit and run a few weeks back and filed a police report (Someone had backed into my car in a parking lot). Police came, took a report, noted witnesses, and ran the plates. After running the place he tells me the vehicle belonged to a local business. So I'm thinking sweet I have a lead, maybe I can resolve this personally and not shit on someone's life with a hit & run charge (even though the shitbag deserves it). I talk to them and ofc they deny and say they will call back when they figure something out. No call back.

I call the police station and talk to records almost two weeks later to see what's come of it and the guy has trouble finding the report, says he's surprised it's been almost two weeks and no one's done anything with it. Alright, well you'll call me back and let me know what you dig up about progress, cause this can't be right? Cool, thanks Officer Soandso.

Well after this difficulty the secretary at my nieces school (where it happened) says she's a friend there and she'll ask them to look into it. She ends up finding out that the report says the license plate wasn't valid, and that I wasn't looking to pursue the matter anymore. I know the plate was valid, I was with the cop when he ran it and he told me the result. I also never said I was dropping the case. This means someone has altered the report on file.

I planned on going to the police station tomorrow to talk with them about this (after getting myself a copy of the police report) but am afraid of the consequences of pursuing the matter.

Can anyone give me advice on what to do / not do or expect tomorrow?
