[Serious] People of reddit who have gone through or are going through cancer, what was the first sign that made you go to the doctor?

Was a healthy 32M at the time and noticed a lump under my collarbone. I ignored it for a few months, until I started getting some pain when doing shoulder raises or any kind of shoulder work at the gym. Ended up going to the doctor and they sent me for a biopsy. Ended up being cancer, Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, stage 2 as it was in two separate spots in the body.

Shortly after finding out, my girlfriend (now wife) started watching Forks Over Knives and suggested going vegan. I completely changed my diet overnight. No animal products at all, and kept lifting and running. For some reason, the lymph nodes started shrinking over the years and last year I was placed in clinical remission. I’ve been very fortunate that I haven’t had to go through chemotherapy.

This is not trying to preach about being vegan, this is what worked for me, and maybe my story will help someone else. It’s been 7.5 years since my initial diagnosis, I know it’ll be with me forever but I’m confident in what I’m capable of dealing as well as having the support of family and friends.
