[Serious] People of Reddit who have been in a coma, what was it like? Were you conscious at all or were you completely gone? How did you get into the coma and how did you get out?

I somehow came off a 3 story balcony and was kept in an induced coma for a little over 2 weeks almost 4 months ago. Broke a couple vertebrae, my pelvis and my ankle as well as a minor bleed in my brain and a skull fracture, oh and I broke my pinky finger They would periodically bring me slightly out of it to try and assess me and get me awake, I sort of remember these times but I was extremely paranoid and delusional. I don’t recall any clear memories from my time in the ICU but i do remember very odd almost dream like scenarios with faces I don’t recognise and some I do, I’m guessing the ones I don’t recognise were nurses and doctors. A lot of the dreams were in hospitals but my surroundings would change each time and I would think I was in a different hospital with a different disease or ailment. I would die or be killed or at least be in danger of death in almost every single scenario. They would range from being hunted by Angelina Jolie and a group of cultist swimming pool attendants after I didn’t give sufficient care to Angelina’s children that I was babysitting. Through to being in hospital and diagnosed with a terminal case of bird flu and saying goodbye to everyone I knew and loved before asking one of the nurses to euthanise me before it got any worse.

From what I’ve heard after I was woken up whenever I was brought slightly out i would constantly be pulling on my IV lines, catheter, intubation tube and monitoring cables trying to get them all out. I would also plead with my parents to take me home and get me out of there, a lot of the things they’ve said I would say to them line up with some of the dreams/delusions I can remember. When I was asking them to get me out of there I’m fairly sure I was thinking I was trapped in a psych ward with nurses that were abusing me.

I had a pretty lengthy hospital stay after I got out of the ICU while I waited for my pelvis to heal up, was in there for about 2 months all up. The one positive was that all my surgeries were done while I was in the induced coma, they didn’t even need to anaesthetise me. Woke up with very minor pain which subsided within about a week. I’m back at home now getting around on a walking stick, will likely be going back in about a month though for a hip replacement then another 6 months to get my spine rods out.

All in all I would not recommend being in a coma 1/10.
