[Serious] People who've written malicious code (viruses, trojans, etc), what motivated you to do so? If you stopped, what motivated you to stop?

I didn't write anything but about 10 years ago when I was 15 I wanted to be a 1337H4x0r!! I liked to brag at school about my """""""hacking skills""""""". One day I learned about keyloggers, and found this "keylogger" which was actually a cookie stealer named "iStealer". You just had to double click the .exe and all your cookies were sent to me. What I then did, I made a tutorial on how to use iStealer and put it on youtube, together with the download link in the description. The iStealer that I put on youtube was fully working, except that it sent all your cookies to me when you clicked the .exe So I basically stole cookies from people trying to steal other peoples cookies? After 2-3 years I had about 5000 different passwords and usernames from all sort of sites. I didn't really do anything with them, the coolest thing I found was a myfreecams account with tokens on it. Oh boy that was fun night for 15 year old me. The free webhost took a long time to discover my database, but by the time they closed it I lost all interest in """""hacking"""""

So what motivated me start? People thinking I was some genius hacker. What made me stop? Losing all interest.
