Ding ding. Said it from the start. Curious how people are now citing this as the reason for the 'evil West' supporting Ukraine instead of coming to the obvious realization that its the one of the prime reasons behind Russia's invasion.

I mean it's not like these resources pose an existential threat to Russia's gas station economy or anything, and it's not like a state would ever launch an unjust war to secure strategic resources .. right?

Fact is Russia has an enormous amount of leverage of Europe via their gas & oil exports. Their entire economy -- about the size of Italy's before sanctions -- is centred around it. A rich Ukraine with their own gas deposits? Whoneeds Russia? Europe would ditch Russia in a heartbeat. Bye-bye $, bye-bye energy blackmail.
