[Serious] In spite of everything, what are the best things to happen to you and yours this year?

Everyone keeps saying 2016 has been a horrible year. Don't get me wrong, I understand they are saying that because of all the celebrity deaths and maybe stuff isn't going so well for them in their personal life this year. But 2016 has changed my life. Before I get started I just want you to know that I always have dreamed about becoming a chef. With that out of the way, story time.

At the beginning of 2016 I was overweight, had no job, pretty much took advantage of my parents and didn't help them with bills or housework, smoked weed all day every day, played video games all day every day, had no friends, didn't have a license and just had no real ambitions. I was like that since I graduated school about 4 years ago. I don't know why but one day I just switched on. Enough was enough. I was sick of being the laughing stock of the family. Sick of being the one that was waiting for a handout. I quit smoking weed on the spot, went out and got my license, joined a gym and started losing weight and getting some confidence about myself. I found a job working at a sushi shop. It was weird. After spending about half a year at the sushi shop I realised that this isn't a career. I won't be able to get any higher than where I'm at now. So I decided to bite the bullet and started calling restaurants around the city I live in. I called the best restaurant in town just to ask if they would be willing to take on an apprentice, I wasn't expecting them to say yes! They told me to be there in one hour to have a trial night. It took about 45 minutes for me to get there from where I lived so I basically changed cloths and got in the car without telling anyone where I was going. After a four hour trial night on what I was told was one of the busier nights, they told me I got the job and start the next Monday! Since then I have learned so much and am extremely happy with where I'm at in my life right now. Found an amazing second family with the people I work with, moved out of home and live with my sous chef who is like a brother to me and bought my first car.

TLDR: Got the job of my dreams Got my license Lost weight Bought a car Moved out of home Stopped my "addiction" to online gaming
