I knew someone who genuinely believed the only reason men don’t like her was because she was overweight. She was also bossy, condescending, only ever talked about herself, and regularly undermined people when they appeared smarter than her. She had a habit of trying to make other women look bad in front of men and play it off as a joke when women called her out. More than one person told me she was very difficult to be around. But she always talked about how she couldn’t find a boyfriend because of the way she looked and talked crap on societal beauty standards (only ever calling me “conventionally pretty”, which always felt like a back-handed compliment).
