A Significant Nuance About Retaining Berhalter or Not

I really can't believe how hard you hit that nail directly on the head, without even realizing it.

Roberto Martinez (Spain) coached Belgium - Never elite, and complete and utter failure. Would be such a massively stupid hire. Tata Martino (Argentina) coached Mexico - The #1 name I saw GGG-out folks mention when being upset about GGG's hire. Obviously, they all shut the fuck up about wanting Tata, but are the generally pie-in-the-sky folks now, that are mouth frothing GGG-out. Fabio Capello (Italy) coached England - Fail. Jorge Sampaoli (Argentina) coached Chile - Anomaly Guus Hiddink (Netherlands) coached South Korea, Australia, Russia, and Turkey - Long time ago, and a absurdly paid mercenary.

And therein lies the rub. Personally, I want us to be ambitious and throw absurd money and the potential glory of a US-home soil WC with a golden generation. But WHO? Let's be completely frank, any realistic option on your list would be a step down from GGG. GGG has fucking owned Tata's soul. Martinez literally pissed away one of the greatest talent pools in the World and couldn't handle making tough choices (siding with Hazard over everyone even tho he's clearly washed).

I really, really want us to be ambitious, but if it's not a clear upgrade to Berhalter, what's the point. At least we've seen him grow as a manager, learn lessons, and he's young and ambitious, so why would that growth stop?

To me the decision comes down to dream scenario type hires (Ancelotti, Zidane, Mourinho type names) or stay the course. Maybe Marsch, but I'd like to see him get more club experience and look to him in 2030.
