Sikh student arrested for having his Kirpan

Good on you for clarifying he wasn’t arrested, but the point of my replies isn’t to just ask you questions or try to retort what you are stating (not saying you are claiming that). It’s within the right of the police to detain the individual as it was the right of the person who reported that he had a knife based on the school policy. However, this situation could have been avoided if the person knew what the kirpan meant. I highly doubt this individual would have alerted the authorities if there was a better understanding of the kirpan’s significance to the detained person. Sikh men have been carrying around each of the five Ks for centuries and in rare cases are any weapons ever drawn. I’m not making a case for whether it should be used on campus.
