Someone help me understand about total distance.

I had a few long and unprofitable drives like that. Skip did not care to pay me for that. That's how they make money. They are hoping that someone will take those shitty offers, and it looks like some people still do. I learnt that if I take every offer like they want me to, I am making nothing at all. I pay for gas and car and my time, after that there is nothing left.

I did some math and decided to only accept offers based on how profitable those are for me. Here is how I look at offers: 1. Take under 10 minutes and under 5km total distance (including driving to the restaurant, customer and coming back to the hot spot). I will accept it if over $7. 2. Take under 15 minutes and under 10km total distance (including driving to the restaurant, customer and coming back to the hot spot). I will accept it if over $9. 3. Take under 20 minutes and under 15km total distance (including driving to the restaurant, customer and coming back to the hot spot). I will accept it if over $13. 4. Take under 30 minutes and under 25km total distance (including driving to the restaurant, customer and coming back to the hot spot). I will accept it if over $21.

This is how I calculated those totals: let's say you get an offer that is $5 and 4.5 km to the restaurant, customer and back to the zone. Some drivers might take it thinking it's $1 for 1km. I see order pick up and drop off will take at the minimum 5 min(I add an extra 5 min for "slow" restaurants). So this order will take me at least 15 min to complete - 5 min pick up and 10 min drive there and back. I am looking for at least $6.5 to accept it. Here is why: my car cost is $0.38/km, but including gas ($1.05/litre), it is at around $0.50/km. When I accept this offer I get $2.5 vehicle cost and 15 min of my time. Let's say my time is worth $16/hour then, 15 min will be worth $4. Adding those together, and I am looking at the minimum $6.5 . Otherwise, you are driving around like a mindless zombie the whole day, burning gas, wearing off your car, polluting the environment, making $5/hour. Ask yourself: "Why bother? Do you have nothing better to do?" You can make $15/hour anywhere, there are a lot of very easy, stress free jobs in Calgary. A lot of those jobs also have benefits. You always have a choice.
