So, thousands of years before the events of the show an extra-dimensional entity known only as "the Nibiru Entity" was cast out by its kind and bound in a mass of solid crystal. Eventually, it fell to our world, and the crystal was uncovered by Spanish conquistadors. They took it as their prize but madness soon enveloped them, and they tore themselves apart. The survivors made landfall, buried the crystal and tried to forget. But the entity endured, and its maddening influence rose upward. Its eldritch touch warped the land, guiding events to its dark will. Innocents lost themselves to insanity (and monster costumes!) and, eventually, couples formed. Directed by the will of the creature, they felt love and had children (and a dog I guess) and these, too, were subtly influenced by the creature. Apathy, jealousy or obsession rose unbidden in their minds and gently nudged them down a long and winding path of choices over the courses of their lives. The path that leads to becoming a group of mystery-solving teenages whom would one day find the crystal prison of the Nibiru entity and unwittingly shatter it.")
