Spokey Dokey - Cowboy Bebop OST [ Blues / Harmonica / LiveAcoustic ] (2018)

Spokey Dokey

Spokey Dokey was a short lived noise group from Orange County, CA. They are named after the The Seatbelts song of the same name. They played only two shows, both of which ended prematurely and resulted in being kicked off stage. Their 2nd show took place outdoors at Fountain Valley High School, a school that none of the members attended. The attendance of that show was roughly 500+ people. They were told they would "never play in Orange County ever again" to which they responded with an impromptu breakdance act coinciding with their version of America's #1 hit song, the Star Spangled Banner. Their show was reviewed with discontent by blogger, Brittany:

"Two drum sets. Two single drums. A guitar. And a really angry Asian kid.

That was our "entertainment" at lunch time this afternoon. It was seriously like these boys were talking in first period and I'd imagine their conversation went something like this. Boy A: So uh I play the drums. Boy B: Yeah, I can too! Boy C: Me too! Well, kinda. I mean I can bang on them but what's really sweet is I can strum on my guitar at the same time! Boy D: Well, I sing... mm... scream. Hey, we should play the bowl today! Boy B: Oh, but we don't even have any songs prepared! Boy D: No, dude. It'll be totally chill. I'll just scream some nonsense that the audience won't even be able to understand because of the screaming. I'll just growl and air-hump the stage so I look so rockstar! It'll basically be an improv! And you guys just play your instruments and we don't even have to be on the same beat. Oh, yeah don't worry about tuning the guitar either. Boy C, just play the guitar and the drums at the same time and the audience won't be able to notice our flaws because we'll look so totally awesome on stage because of all our instruments!

So, I'm walking to Senior Commission at lunch today only to find our booth isn't on the stage because it's being occupied by some fifteen year olds with instruments. Okay. As I keep walking, they begin to play. It's like they couldn't agree on a song and each just played whatever they wanted even if it didn't flow. It sounded so horrid. I quickly made a "WTF?!" face towards them and walked to my friend. We began laughing because the singer (if you can even call him that) thought it'd be so cool to take off his shirt to expose his prepubescent body. Luckily, after one song, Mr. Bryan kicked them off the stage and the audience began to show appreciation.... for someone saving our ears. Of course, that would not stop them. They began to sing their rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" totally off key and started break dancing on stage. Okay, seriously. Get off the stage. You're really starting to annoy me.

Musical talent has diminished so much in the past few years and I feel sorry for our future generations. I mean with all of the sexist rap, grindcore and screamo... where do we have left to turn? Oh, no fear though! It's all good! The Beatles are still alive in every youth's heart because "ACROSS THE UNIVERSE" WAS LIKE OMG SO AWESOME! I TOTALLY LOVE THE BEATLES! No, stop kidding yourself. Once that fad dies out, you're going to continue to say that they were just some kids with bad haircuts. I actually do like the Beatles and HATED "Across the Universe" because it totally did them injustice. And who knows? If "I'm Not There" gets released into more major movie theatres, everyone will be like "OMFGZ BOB DYLAN!" It actually might be good that he's a recluse. But I'm sorry Mr. Dylan, the times are not a-changin'. "

Most members present in Spokey Dokey now play in Yūko Imada live shows.
