Star Trek Beyond Trailer (2016) - Paramount Pictures

Indeed. Have you ever watched any of the old Science Fiction Theatre? Yes, they are often over the top, but SFT created the fan base and story-telling ground work for the successful runs of Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, which of course was the frame work for TOS. This group will reassure you the JJ Trek isn't hardly science at all, but simply space adventure like Star Wars. Along the way, JJ did throw the occasional techno-babble bone, but both installments are replete with plot holes and half-explanations that the SFT baby boomers would never tolerate (if you listened close, you probably could have heard a few seniors in the theater grumbling the modern equivalent of "meh".) Sci-fi is supposed to be largely a cerebral exploration, but has evolved into the desire for cool action-adventure. And that would be fine, but somewhere amidst the cgi effects, the script writers have thrown out the baby with the bath water. Granted, some of the old, low-budget stuff was platitudinously ladened with snail-paced intensity. Still, it had originality. My favorite example of how early sci-fi is the template by which all other sci-fi should follow is "The Sixth Finger" from the Outer Limits written by Ellis Joseph - a terrific script writer and sci-fi fan. If you've seen it you know what I mean, if not - I urge you to watch it. Don't look up the synopsis. Just give it 50 undivided minutes of your time. This contains every aspect of sci-fi and its exploration into the human condition. Its a masterpiece of story telling, acting, directing, effects and camera work. Sorry, kinda got on a soap box. Apologies. Anyway, I wish I could say this to the writers.
