Stopping montelukast/singulair used for allergic rhinitis

I've been taking montelukast aka singulair for allergies (first it was for a few months then long term for about two years) in combination with albuterol on an as need basis. I would usually get wheezy and be coughing like crazy in the morning due to the cold and dust so albuterol would help with that. I haven't had to use the albuterol in a long time and I don't get wheezy or cough at all anymore. I don't want to depend on a prescribed medication 365 days a year if I don't have to, so is it okay to just discontinue use? I'm on my last few pills of my 3 month supply and have an automatic refill for tomorrow but wondering if I should take a break from it and see what happens? FYI: Of course I'll ask my doc for reassurance on Monday but if someone has had any experience with stopping this medication after long term use I would like to hear your thoughts, thanks!

How long have you been taking montelukast for? My allergies are almost non- existent now but could be because the meds are doing its job. But I don't want to take it if its not necessary anymore
