Royals to discuss plans for a downtown stadium at today’s press conference.

I've been a big advocate of a downtown stadium and continuing to grow our downtown, especially with the Big 12 (and their tournament) long-term outlook being very unstable. Kauffman stadium is the 6th oldest stadium in MLB.

I am not worried about the Royals moving to LV as I think the A's are more likely to be making that move. I could see Nashville being the biggest contender to lure them away. Listening to the press conference, the owner said it's 5-10 years away as lease expires in 2031. The criteria for their next home is (1) focused on economic growth in the region; (2) quality of life/positive impact on citizens with a focus on underrepresented areas of the city; evaluating options and one of the options is downtown, but wherever they play it must meet those criteria. As far as taxpayers he said - "taxpayers are involved today with a private-public partnership with Jackson County and the Truman Sports Complex and anticipate it will be a partnership but not sure how that will look like."
