I think an important distinction needs to be made in this discussion. It isn't racist to say "I find this cultural practice aesthetically pleasing and would like to see it represented in the game."

It is, however, racist to dismiss the concerns of people of color when they raise concerns or objections, especially when they devs have a history of not being particularly sensitive, particularly towards darker-skinned people.

No one is entitled to "pretty things" if it means bringing harm to marginalized people. It doesn't matter if your personal friend is okay with it, there's a lot of people who aren't.

Calaveras are certainly beautiful, but they need to be treated respectfully.
