Sununu rejects Democratic call for special session to codify abortion rights

The governor said such a move isn't necessary because those rights are not in danger of changing in the state. Sununu has said he would sign a bill codifying Roe v. Wade and abortion rights if it reaches his desk, but he rejected the call from House Democrats for a special session.

If he’s being honest about this, he’s my favorite Republican in the country. Admittedly a very low bar (and frankly he probably already is), but still.

I understand the panic right now after the Dobbs decision, but we have a 24-week law with exceptions for the mother’s health (i.e., as protective as Roe’s now federally defunct viability standard), and a right to privacy is codified in our constitution, mooting the issue the SCOTUS hacks hung their hats on in Dobbs. In short, abortion rights seem not to be in any danger in New Hampshire. But of course, we’ll have to see how the winds blow.
