Nocturne isn’t really universally viewed as the best in the series, it really just got some passionate fans. It’s really a love it or hate it type of game. I would recommend it if you’re fine with some quality of life downgrades and more harsh gameplay. Good game, but don’t overhype yourself.

Regarding the remastered, it doesn’t really matter. I guess PS4 has a bit faster load times, but I didn’t have any problems playing it on the switch.

Also the best system to get older Megaten titles would be 3DS, it has many great games. It has: SMT IV, SMT IV Apocalypse (sequel), SMT Strange Journey Redux, Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, Devil Survivor Overclocked, Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker, Persona Q and Persona Q2.
