And, it comes at a critical time: the parallels between Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and China’s interests in Taiwan are a little too close for comfort, including China’s support of Russia’s actions in Ukraine. It’s highly unlikely that China would act; they’d be foolish to do so. Xi is anything but foolish. So, I read Pelosi’s trip on the surface as let’s talk about the APAC trade partnership, AND otherwise as a calculated move by Pelosi and Biden, and by extension, the U.S. Government to show that it has interests in Taiwan and will act, if needed.
