The theory is that the big corporation WANT to get regulated. They want so because if it happens, it'll lead to the lost of anonymity on the internet as we know it (and whatever regulation is imposed theyll simply pay their way around it like always). With Alex Jones they just tested the water, to see how the public would react and they got exactly the reaction they wanted; a massive backlash. Now this shit get posted on r/conspiracy and gets tons of upvotes even though the community clearly understand that no one should be giving a fuck.
