There are now 800 million devices running Windows 10 worldwide

I say this as a guy that uses Linux heavily as a daily driver - My laptop runs Linux, my desktop runs Linux, I have two physical servers which run Linux as well as over a dozen local and cloud-based Linux VMs to run my homelab - and, even my Surface Go typically has an X-session up on it (so I primarily use it via the Linux Subsystem even though the host OS is Windows) - not every bit of hardware works properly in Linux, and not everyone is really computer literate enough to change their OS over. Now, Ubuntu has made it easier than it used to be. But the majority of people honestly don't care to know anything more about their computer or they want it to just work out of the box - so unless Best Buy starts selling some of the laptops with Linux pre-loaded, it's just not going to be on the radar for these people.

Which is a shame, because the only big thing holding Linux back right now is driver support (Proton and WINE have basically gotten rid of any difficulties I'd had in the past running Windows executables in Linux). But some major vendors don't really put the effort into their Linux drivers because of a lack of market share. But with enough demand they'd probably fix that and there's otherwise not really anything different for your average end-user, aside from a few UI elements shifted around.
