those "we know fathers day is tough for some of you" posts/emails

not to do the whiny mra thing, but im very much estranged from my abusive/homophobic mother, and every mother's day i get asked what im doing/getting for my mom, which is obviously nothing. this is always followed by either an awkward silence then acknowledgement or a shitty moralizing lecture about how she gave birth to me. sometimes i just think of a random diner in the area or tell them she's dead just to avoid dumping the unwanted sob story on them lol

in comparison, father's day is almost seen as an anti-holiday like 9/11, where instead of neverforgetting, you just never mention it around others lest they don't have a dad and you look like a shit person for reminding them of the fact.

it's just a really bizarre double standard where assumptive prying is seen as ok in one context and not another
