TIL Mark Wahlberg was booked to fly on American Airlines Flight 11 on September 11, 2001, but his plans changed the day before and he canceled his reservation. He received backlash for stating in a 2012 interview, "If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn't have went down like it did".

It's easy to hate on a celebrity for making ignorant comments but maybe someone could have stopped the hijacking by fighting back.

There is a recording of a phone call from Betty Ong, a woman who was on the flight during the hijacking: https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bal-te.terror28jan28-story.html

It's no secret that Mark Wahlberg did some racist sht when he was young but I'd bet that he had had a knife pulled on him at least once so *maybe he could have made a difference.

Then again, "not going down like it did" would still be true if he was stabbed and killed. But talking shit and upsetting people's families? No, that's not okay.
