TIL in Scotland, a group of students went to a modern arts gallery and left a pineapple in an empty exhibit to see if people would think it was art. When they returned four days later, not only was the pineapple was still there, it had been covered with a glass case

Hi i hope you dont mind me picking your brain a little, but this topic is so interesting and such a unique part of culture imo. Firstly, do you feel that it is a bit strange that some items derive such a high value because of the value others place on it? Its almost like certain items experience an upwards spiral in value that feeds itself based on perceived popularity. What i mean by that is people are influenced to perceive an object to have high value if they believe others feel that that object is valuable. As these new people are influenced to perceive the object is of high value, they in turn influence more people into believing the same. This cycle continues and continues, and eventually the object is perceived to be of immensely high value, and there is a general consensus that this object deserves that value, despite consideration of whether the "objective" value or quality of the object is commensurate. I cant help but feel this is a natural phenomenon and an inherent aspect of human society. Sorry if that was a little intense haha i just dont know anyone connected to the art world that i can talk with this about
