TMBR, I think Islam is a dangerous and violent religion by its nature. Not all the Islamic people, just the religion itself.

First of all, I support a lot of the things you support, and I hope that you don't take this too seriously. If you're really worried about a Muslim going on a rampage because of their faith, you might be putting to much value on how they practice their faith. If your worried about them rampaging because of their personality that has nothing to do with their faith. A combination. And we're talking about those "terrible" two words we're never meant to say as liberals, "radical islam".

It's a fucking thing, and it's the best term for it. Some people radicalized their ideals, and we must be able to identify them. Some of those people happen to pray to Muhammed and read the Quran. Quran is a peaceful religion, and mass hysteria has made it out to be filled with "violence".

Being raised as a Presbyterian, I'm sure you've read the Bible often. Kings are consistently slaughtered, entire nations culled. Both books and faiths are equally terrifying and "violent". Both books also offer a path to escaping the violence and pain we feel here on earth. It's best if I simply cite from their Holy book.

“This Book is not to be doubted…. As for the unbelievers, it is the same whether or not you forewarn them; they will not have faith. God has set a seal upon their hearts and ears; their sight is dimmed and grievous punishment awaits them.” Quran 2:1/2:6-2:10 (sounds similar to the christian hell to me, all accept the act of forgiveness)

There's more but I won't drag on. The majority of texts that imply "war against the infidels", or "kill the nonbelievers", or "Allah smit them blah blah blah" is based around events that actually happened. Similar to the bible. There were religious wars, and of course in a war fueled by your faith, you would project that your God and faith support you in all endeavors. Including killing nonbelievers despite their pillars of belief that we should help all men.

Basically. It's no different than christianity and their bible. You get a few teachings, a religious war here and there, things get violent, "god" cleans it all up. Go to this website and compare Christian teachings to Muslim teachings right out of the books. Dianedew.com

Great site, very informative, although I will say some are so biased that they still see more "evil" in the quran. That's why I enjoy being an atheist and making my own fucking decisions instead of some age old book written in the days when shit washed down our streets, and swords went into people's backs.
