Toronto tow truck rules could change, with fixed rate to protect shaken motorists

It could be a lot of the people who got screwed don't know they got screwed Scenario A: Person A has tow driver drop them off where collisions are filed by police and their insurance company picks up their vehicle for repairs. They only pay the tow fee like they're suppose to which is covered by insurance if it's around $180. Person A drives around in one of the insurance company's CEO's 2018 Red Cadillacs.

Scenario B: Person B is confident and trusts the tow truck driver. He has it impounded inside the tow operators lot which charges anywhere from $60-200 per day until the mechanic that was recommended by the tow truck driver isn't "busy". By then 2 to 7 days of fees have been racked up which will be around $250 to $1000 for storage. Your insurance initially covers your first $180 trip, however your trip back with the driver will usually be more than $180 and can end up being $500 or more depending on which company is towing you. Now assuming you don't want your insurance to know about this(And THEY WILL KNOW because the other person you hit will tell their insurance which will then tell yours) your repairs might not be the best quality and even if they are you'll end up overpaying for them at the tow operators recommended shop. Now you're angry, cannot afford to pay the thousands in storage fees and can't find the money for repairs because you're the average Joe. You tell your insurance and they can't do anything because you didn't leave your vehicle in their storage which is only $50 a day, and that $50 wouldn't matter because they cover it anyway and pickup your car immediately while the repairs would've took a few weeks, but for whatever reason you trusted a complete stranger with your car rather than the insurance company you pay $250-500 a month for. You're car gets repossessed as compensation.
