Toronto's 'first pot customer' was in fact a disguised employee - Unethical disguised marketing

An ad is technically any paid promotional effort by a company, she was acting on behalf of her employer while being paid in an attempt to mislead consumers.

That would have been smarter because it wouldn't be so obvious, heh. As long as there's no explicit mention it can be difficult to determine whether or not it is sponsored content, this has been a rather big to do since influencers and the Kardashians specifically have gained in popularity. The FTCs dos and don't of sponsorship marketing is a really good read if you're so inclined.

I think my issue with it is that it's misleading and clearly done with intent. I can't say what would come of it, but this is pretty unscrupulous for a newcomer in such a heavily regulated industry, PR stunt or not, the regulations are very clear and health Canada is proactively monitoring LPs and now ontario retailers. I don't think the onus is on the tv production crew and personality, they can't stop people saying FHRITP let alone vet bad actors.
