Trump Quietly Inks Deal Selling Out Americans to Telecom Industry: "It's deeply ironic that President Trump is expressing outrage about alleged violations of his own privacy while signing legislation that will dramatically expand government surveillance of all Americans." - Evan Greer

When I point out to friends/family how FB (and, quite likely, most others,) can at any time, turn on the users mic or camera, the typical reaction is "oh! that explains how I'll be talking about something & next thing ya know I'm getting ads for that very thing lol ". When I point out that the feature could be exploited by hackers, pedophiles & the like, they usually shrug & get blank, stupid looks on their faces.

It's not as simple as you explained, it's quite a bit more complex. Lets use Facebook as an example. When I first learned of the privacy deal I felt the exact same way as I do about the whole NN and concept you are talking about. The difference is that I can actually do something about Facebook.

If I have an app or a service like Twitter that I could disagree with it's an easy fix. Delete account, delete app, and boom it's done. To change something like an exploit a hacker can use, it's a much more complicated process. Often times I have to not only research the subject to properly form my own opinion, but I then have to start a petition call representatives whole ultimately do their own thing anyways and pay for it the next election while getting rich for doing said things in the mean time. It takes a lot of people and often a lot of money and time as well to fight against corruption in the political realm. Uninstalling an app is tangible. It's quick, fast, and I feel accomplishment immediately.

To say that the same people who uninstall an app doesn't care about their privacy is a terrible way to look at it. If uninstalling an app was as exhausting as calling Reps and getting people together for a cause, then I bet you anything that you would see a massive dip in "Immediate policy backlash."
