The truth about 10 Cloverfield Lane(x-post from /r/10cloverfieldlane)

Okay.. some thoughts.

I'm thinking about how quickly this popped up with the title 10 Cloverfield Lane (first I've heard of it). Bad Robot is right in the beginning, it's got the same trailer feel from the original, kinda upbeat and casual to foreboding and dark in a minute or two.. So spiritually it's implied that the movies are related, like, with the title.

That reminds me of how shrouded in mystery the original movie was and if they wanted to recreate that same kind of mystique in a clever way without just mimicking the same old schtick, this would be the way to do it. Write, film, and screen a low budget movie under two working titles (1-18-08 was as much as anyone had on Cloverfield for a WHILE). Get some reactions from a plot that's mostly self contained in a fallout shelter, facilitate a couple leaks, and end the movie with some totally bullshit, vague, thrown together twist. THEN do some minor/major editing tweaks to the screened movies- use alternate takes and lines that tie it more closely to the original universe, release it under a title with the original movie's name in it, and watch the fans go nuts theorizing and trying to figure out if it's a sequel or spiritual successor, digging up leaks from pre-screenings, etc.

This would not surprise me at all after the whole mythos they build for the first one with all the work they put into that alternate reality marketing game they did for the first one. The stuff with Slusho and the sea juice and the password protected videos about 'Teddy's' girlfriend going crazy, and the real looking sites for that fake drilling corporation. They never touched on any of that stuff in Cloverfield and Goodman is giving off a little bit of a twichy lunatic vibe in this one.

Actually now that I've got this in my head I'll actually be a little disappointed if it's not the case. Who knows maybe she'll see a couple monsters when she gets to the top? I'm excited for whatever it is because the marketing for these guys has been pretty cool so far.
