Trying to replace windows.. feeling overwhelmed

Double hungs are considered more energy efficient than casement or awning windows due to their long-term ability to seal more tightly when closed

must be why theres practically zero passive house rated single hung/double hung windows, or why practically every home that is focused on energy efficiency goes with tilt and turn or casement windows for windows that need to open.

complaining about a replaceable seal when every type of window is going to have some sort of sealing issues a decade later is a nonfactor. a single hung/double hung window inherently will never be as capable as a casement or tilt and turn. then the bare minimum of performance of a tilt and turn/casement window is going to be leagues ahead of the bare minimum of a sh/dh.

price wise, tilt and turn windows are just as affordable as a sh/dh window in the US.
