Help! Contractor Drilled a Big Hole in my Joist

I used to work with SEs and they just flat out wouldn't go in the field unless it was their own massive fuck up. They would also delay doing any sort of engineering investigation as long as they could. Engineers are not the altruistic God's on high this sub seems to think they are. Granted, I worked in a sort of niche field of commercial construction, so they all knew if they refused to work on something, no one could force them and there was nowhere else you could go. But still, most engineers I've met have that same arrogant attitude most white collar professionals seem to have.

I would just call the manufacturer and, as another poster said, I'm sure they have a very simple fix. Probably glue and screw osb on both sides, if it's even a problem. I took out 15' of a load bearing wall in my house and replaced it with LVLs and never needed an engineer. The manufacturer had span tables and the loads were fairly simple to calculate. I even was able to call them and verify my work.

I guess my point is that there are other resources that are likely more helpful than an engineering consultant that's gonna drag his feet forever and probably just call the manufacturer (well his secretary will) himself.
