Trying to understand a DMT trip through Buddhism

Honestly my friend I think you are dramatically understating the spiritual value that psychedelics carry with them.

illicit peak experiences which instill feeling of awe and amazement. Afterwards, the user feels a powerful desire to try and integrate their experience into their comparatively mundane everyday life.

But why is this a bad thing? Nearly every single human on this planet is trying to integrate less than realistic ideas they have into the real world. Furthermore, most of this integration ends up being realized as fantastic art or writing that is nearly indistinguishable from holy art and scripture at times.

The problem as seen from the Buddhist perspective is that there is nothing whatsoever special about the peak experience.

Yeah, but why? These experiences are the manifestation of everything the mind is capable. It is nearly impossible to see such a powerful display of your own psychology without putting yourself in some kind of dangerous scenario.

After much practice (years or decades), experienced mediators may have peak experiences where they feel themselves at one with the cosmos. The ironic thing is that, thanks to their training, this experience should feel as ordinary as walking to the shops. A good teacher can be instrumental here, because it's easy for a student to get snagged by what they've seen.

The modern world has no time for years or decades of meditation. I'm sorry but a good portion of our planet needs a spiritual-flavored perspective change and I don't see anything wrong with it being so fast that it leaves people in awe.

Buddhism is a wonderful path to take. However, you probably won't find any answers to your DMT experiences. You might, however, find that your interest in drugs declines as you come to appreciate the nuances and subtleties of the conscious experience.

I strongly but respectfully disagree. Buddhism has become two hundred times more useful to me after using DMT and other psychedelic medicines (because that is what they are, spiritual medicines.) and I personally have found that the more I meditate, the more I have appreciation for these substances as a teacher and genuine form of meditation.

Does it show you the truth more than anything else? No, but it doesn't show you the truth any less, either.
