/u/hetellsitlikeitis tells is like it is, when a small town Trump supporter asks why he is met with hostility. Best response to a Trump supporter, ever. Polite, but firm.

I don't know you, so I don't know if you're racist, sexist, or an evil cigar chomping titan of industry. If I had to guess, you're probably a decent person, someone I'd like to have a beer with. But you can't support policies that hurt people, then get offended when others say that they hurt. Your compromise positions sound good, but they aren't what the politicians you presumably support are doing. No one looking to restrict abortion is saying "but let's increase access to birth control and other women's health!" It's the opposite. I don't see much talk of more INS raids looking for the 10,000 French, 18,000 Germans or 20,000 British suspected of overstating their visits, or of anyone with a British, French or German accent getting harassed about their immigration status. It's pretty much just the Hispanic community. No one is saying that Churches have to marry gay couples. But i didn't see a big push on the right to start granting heterosexual couples "civil union licenses" in order to reserve marriage as a purely religious ceremony. When it comes to charity, maybe your church was great, but churches as a whole weren't getting the job done. If they were, a program like Social Security wouldn't have been so effective at reducing elder poverty.

Again, I don't know you or your intentions. All I can see are the actions you take and the impact those have, and the policy preferences that you apparently prioritize (antiabortion, crackdowns on illegal immigration, shrinking the social safety net) have bad outcomes that focus on women, minorities, and the poor.
