Yes, this makes me so angry.

I work at an animal shelter. For whatever reason, we get a lot of volunteers on the spectrum. Folks who come in on their own and folks who come in as a part of programs. And in either case, they’re some of our best volunteers. They communicate so well with the cats I spend time with. They’re respectful of the animals and enthusiastic.

I know it’s not right to paint every autistic person with the same brush, but just on a personal level, it makes me hurt for the excellent people I’ve met doing this job, seeing this shitty rhetoric.

I know the world’s a better place because they are who they are. I understand that autism brings many challenges, but some of those challenges are because of attitudes like this!!! Maybe instead of encouraging people to get measles, these anti-vaxxers could work to make a better society for people with autism. Maybe parents wouldn’t be so scared of raising their autistic kids in this society.
