We're Anarcho-Capitalists, ask us anything!

Ancapistan

My thoughts precisely. I fear Ancapistan could crumble upon itself, once oligarchs organized themsleves sufficiently and decided to live in Oligarchystan once again. I see that happening real quickly here in my home country, for example, if AnCaps were to be implemented. Specially in the poorer areas.

Not to mention the threat all other nation-states would represent. I mean, if Saudi Arabia were to become Anarcho Capitalist, for example, I think at some point during this transition, other nation-states would seize the opportunity to invade it and take control of their oil reserves.

I guess the one point that makes me question the whole AnCaps philosophy is basically this (and please don't take me wrong here, I'm not trying to imply that this is a major flaw in the theory, just expressing how I feel, personally). To be honest, I'm not sure that the people's spirit and their will to abide by AnCaps principles would be enough to hold things together.

Is there any theoretical variation that proposes some sort of centralized deffense mechanism? Even if it's not a "nation-state" per se, I would feel much more confortable knowing that the some kind of centralized political institution existed just to protect the AnCaps way of life.

Perhaps some sort of social pact, similar to that of Switzerland, could do the trick, yes. I understand this approach. But then who would enforce that pact upon the oligarchs? What would stop them from turning their back on Ancapistan and selling out to, say, the chinese government?

By the way, I'd like to thank all those who replied. I'm answering to you alone because, in my opinion, you were the one that better got the jist of what was going on in my mind when I asked the original question. But all of you were of great help, in different ways. Thanks for contributing, everyone! Also, sorry if any of this sounds stupid. I'm really not that familiar with Anarcho Capitalism, so chances are I could be making a fool of myself here. I hope that is not the case.
